Greek Gods

The Olympians and their neighbours, hidden behind an emoji substitution cipher. Each emoji is a letter, so the name has to be decoded rather than recognised.

About this pack

This pack covers the gods most people can name — Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Apollo, Hades, Hermes — with hints that give each one's domain rather than their name. Because the answers are proper nouns from a single family of myths, solving one often helps with the next: the letter patterns in Greek names repeat in ways ordinary English words do not.

Solving tips

• Greek names are unusually vowel-rich, and many end in S. Test the final emoji as an S early.
• The hint names a domain — sea, wisdom, underworld, music. If you know the myth, you know the answer before decoding.
• Letters carry across puzzles in your head but not in the cipher: every puzzle uses a fresh emoji-to-letter mapping.

Common questions

Are the answers shown?

Yes, in a panel under each puzzle.

How much mythology do I need?

Only the names most people already know. The hints give each god's domain — sea, wisdom, the underworld — so the myth does the work if the cipher will not.
