About this pack
Practice makes perfect, better safe than sorry, haste makes waste: proverbs are compact, memorable and heavily patterned, which makes them excellent cryptogram material. The hint restates the proverb's advice in ordinary language, so the pack works as a phrasebook for learners as much as a puzzle. Longer answers mean more repeated letters and more footholds.
Solving tips
• Word lengths are the strongest clue. A 8-5-7 pattern is often PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT before you decode anything.
• Proverbs are built from common words, so the usual suspects — IS, THE, THAN, MAKES — repeat across the pack.
• Do not start at the beginning. Attack the shortest word in the phrase first and let it seed the rest.
Common questions
Are the answers shown?
Yes. The full saying appears in a panel under each puzzle.
What is the difference between a proverb and an idiom?
A proverb gives advice and works as a complete sentence; an idiom is a phrase whose meaning has drifted from its literal words. We keep them in separate packs for that reason.
